Buffalo Grass Seeds
Buffalo grass is a turfgrass that is native from Mexico through the Great Plains all the way up as far north as Montana. It is exceptional grass for “open” yards and areas that need little maintenance and have low levels of traffic. These include areas such as golf roughs, roadways, and school yards. It grows relatively short and even at its max height of around twelve inches it tends to lay over giving it a shorter look that it really is. The easiest way to get the grass started in a new place is with buffalo grass seed. There are two types of grass plants that grow – male and female. The male grass plants are the ones that produce the seeds which fertilize the female plants. Unfortunately, the male plants are unsightly in a yard, so female seeds are usually used for a lawn application. The best time to plant the seeds is in early spring giving the grass a full season to fully develop.
